Cognitive science has undergone a transformation where many cognitive abilities have now been explored in a wide range of organisms. This introductory chapter presents a schematic portrait of the sources of change in cognitive sciences and provides a basis for the field called cognitive biology. It also discusses the precursors of cognitive sciences, the current state of affairs of cognitive sciences, the evolutionary approach in the explanation of human cognition and behavior.
Keywords: cognitive science, cognitive abilities, cognitive biology, cognition, behavior
