This chapter discusses the production, supply and recycling of precious and special metals. It explores the optimization of life cycles of these metals, highlighting their broad range of applications. First, it discusses the manufacture of minor metals, including the ways to optimize the yield of minor metals to improve resource efficiency and sustainability. It then turns to the role of effective recycling on metal/product life cycles. The societal, legislative, and structural factors that play a role in the life cycle of precious and special metals are also examined.
