Concepts and Measurements of Competitiveness:
Toward an Integrated Approach
This chapter first reviews the literature on concepts and measurements of competitiveness and comparative advantage, proposes a method of measuring jointly competitive and comparative advantage, and also demonstrates the usefulness of the proposed method by applying it to manufacturing data from India in the postreform period. It shows that the confusing multitude of microeconomic and macroeconomic interpretations of competitiveness has led to a loss of the link and distinction between the concepts of competitiveness and comparative advantage.
