It delves into the responsibility of an addict, and that of other persons, especially those who are involved in the treatment of an addict in an effort to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of addiction. This introduction aims to describe the various topics examined in the book, the multiple perspectives offered herein, and their profound significance for individuals and society. The contributors come from a variety of disciplinary orientations to encourage an atmosphere of multiplicity and significance; they have been given substantial freedom with respect to the focal orientation of the following chapters in the book, with each chapter presenting new and original perspectives.
