Impairment of the Agentic Self in Parkinson’s Disease: Cognitive Deficits in Parkinson’s Disease
This chapter explains that agentic self functions are damaged in Parkinson’s disease (PD). This evidence helps in understanding the common cognitive operations of the agentic self along with the symptoms and functional incapabilities associated with different neuropsychiatric disorders in PD. Many of the neuropsychiatric disorders observed in PD patients can be explained through deformities found in the agentic self. These symptoms include impairments in the overall functioning of the agentic self without being limited only to the decision-making abilities of the patient. Investigations focus on explaining agentic self deformities, as such deformities form the basis of understanding most of the cognitive impairments associated with PD. Cognitive operations are a key component of proper functioning of the agentic self of an individual, and impairment of these operations results in PD.
