This chapter discusses the forms, range, and development of online pornography using digital media tools and online platforms. It explores the role of technological innovations, labor, money, and regulatory practices in the evolution of pornography. Pornographic images, whether desirable, surprising, or disturbing, have an impact on human senses. The book explores the complex interplay of pornographic images and videos with respect to authenticity and artifice and immediacy and distance. It focuses on the theoretical and conceptual approaches toward online pornography, and presents a public discussion of pornography and masturbation as a shameful topic. The main focus of the book is to increase common knowledge about online pornography in order to understand its appeal and specificities.
