An Introduction to Thalamocortical Pathways
This first chapter introduces some of the major functional and structural observations and interpretations that provide the basis of this book. The chapter introduces a number of distinct observations of the thalamocortical pathways that lead to a view of thalamic and cortical functions substantially different from the widely accepted view prevalent in much current literature. One key question that this book asks about thalamus and cortex concerns how they relate to the control of behavior, and an answer will necessarily depend on how these higher control centers relate to each other and to the lower motor centers themselves.
