Generating Stimuli
The implementation of experiments generally starts with the definition of what is displayed to the observer. This chapter is designed to take the reader through a simple introduction to digital images and to show how to generate typical psychophysical stimuli. The methods include creation of simple geometric patterns and more complex images. The examples also provide a tour of common image manipulations, including image type conversions, fast Fourier transformation, convolution, and filtering operations. Taken together, these methods will allow the creation of the most commonly used classes of psychophysical stimuli.
