Biological systems have inspired a large number of ACs, naturally of a more complex type. Just as their natural counterparts, such artificial systems show a multitude of phenomena and often cannot easily be classified into one implementation category. We first discuss string-based ACs, among them the Molecular Classifier Systems, Stringmol, and the SAC system. Next are two ACs based on the key-lock paradigm, Enzymatic Computing and a bitstring model of the immune system. Network chemistries are next, the Toy chemistry of Benkoe et al, examples of random chemical reaction networks, Suzuki’s Network AC and an artificial regulatory network example. The chapter closes with ACs in which a spatial structure plays either a static or dynamic role, the Squirm AC, Sayama’s Swarm chemistry and artificial flow chemistries.
