From Knowledge to Understanding
In order to accommodate science, epistemology should focus on understanding rather than knowledge. Understanding is holistic and nonfactive. It involves knowing how to reason with, and perhaps how to act on the information supplied by a tenable account. Felicitous falsehoods can figure in the understanding of a topic.
