The Cosa Nostra of the Data Processing Industry
The Cosa Nostra of the Data Processing Industry
This chapter examines changing role of computers in corporate management in the U.S. during the 1960s. It explains that the rising power of electronic data processing (EDP) professionals did not go unnoticed by mid-level managers and that these specialists posed something of a conundrum for managers. It also mentions that while the dream of the total management system never really came to fruition, the shift of power from operational managers to computer specialists did seem to occur in at least some organizations.
