The variety of genome rearrangement problems is huge and is increasing every year. While it is possible to design many other variants that have yet to be studied, among the most studied variants, open problems are numerous and discussed throughout the pages of this book. This chapter focuses on the most interesting ones and provides a few that were not cited in the previous chapters. Topics covered include hardness, approximability, polynomial complexity, diameter, and tightness of bounds.
Keywords: genome rearrangement problems, hardness, approximability, polynomial complexity, diameter, tightness of bounds
