This chapter considers the implications of the preceding discussions and case studies for both theory and practice. It suggests lines of further inquiry to help clarify conceptual thinking and expand on the findings in the cases presented. It revisits the thesis about the nature of the transition toward sustainable communities and offers some observations about lessons learned, particularly the factors that seem most to affect the character and pace of the transition to environmental sustainability.
